Overview

Alkebulan Airlines is seeking an accomplished and proactive Safety Manager to lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the airline’s Safety Management System (SMS).

The Safety Manager will serve as the principal coordinator of all safety-related activities, ensuring the effective identification, reporting, and management of operational risks across flight operations, maintenance, ground handling, and corporate functions. This is a strategic leadership role requiring strong analytical skills, regulatory knowledge, and the ability to foster a safety culture consistent with ICAO Annex 19 and ZCAA standards.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation, and oversight of the airline’s Safety Management System (SMS) in compliance with ZCAA and ICAO requirements.
  • Monitor and evaluate safety performance across departments, ensuring continuous hazard identification and risk mitigation.
  • Establish and maintain the safety reporting system, ensuring confidentiality and effective trend analysis.
  • Conduct internal safety investigations, audits, and follow-ups on corrective and preventive actions.
  • Develop and maintain safety policies, manuals, and performance indicators (SPIs & SPTs).
  • Coordinate safety committees, review boards, and training programmes to promote awareness and accountability.
  • Liaise with ZCAA, airport authorities, and industry partners on safety-related issues.
  • Support the integration of safety management principles into operational decision-making.
  • Produce monthly and quarterly safety performance reports for executive management and regulatory submission.
  • Act as the airline’s focal point for emergency response planning (ERP) and crisis coordination.

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Safety, Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the aviation industry, with at least 2 years in a safety management, investigation, or regulatory role.
  • Comprehensive understanding of ICAO Annex 19, ZCAA Safety Management Regulations, and IATA IOSA Standards.
  • Formal training in Safety Management Systems (SMS) and Accident/Incident Investigation.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with safety data management systems (e.g., AQD, ECCAIRS, or similar).

 

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience as a Safety Officer, Quality/Safety Auditor, or Flight Safety Manager within a certified AOC holder or AMO.
  • Advanced certification in Human Factors, Risk Management, or Safety Investigations.
  • Proven ability to engage multi-disciplinary teams and influence safety culture.
  • Strong organizational skills, integrity, and discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Experience interfacing with regulators and industry working groups.
